So bloody close to ... FIRE IN THE HOLE!

Getting close to making noises now, oil in the engine, carbs attached, throttle cable and clutch cable connected, just waiting on a banjo bolt for the oil feed and I'll have to get a splitter for the fuel line, bit of wiring and it'll be fire up time...

My winter project....

This is it! its not too small either, thought i would proper dwarf it, but its not too bad.

The Rotter....

Well its bloody raining AGAIN today - so not ideal for wiring the relic. I had a couple of hours spare late on this afternoon, and had a cracking headache, so I decided to get in the shed and do some stuff to sort myself out!

The rotter mark 2 is coming tomorrow, so I thought I'd have a little potter about with bits for that..

Finished the bars off - I made it hard for myself in the way that I did them, and actually found it pretty hard work to get them somewhere near symmetrical. there is a slight rise in one side of the bars compared to the other, so I'll have to see what they are like when I put them on the bike, maybe they can be a template set to make another set from...

The bars will be narrowed to fit the grips and levers at a later point....

Next up was the top yoke. Normally handlebar clamps are at the back of the yoke to give a pulled back style.

what with my length and the style of bars I'm after I decided it was time for a little modification...

Then started grinding the stumps down

you'll see them more complete later on...

the old forks from the original bike will be used to put on the running bike

I love the fork shrouds, although they were more than a bit tatty, plus I didn't need the headlight mounts...

I'll share you the boring bit, basically I tried nitromores, which only took it back to the red original paint, so I then mounted them in the lathe, and used the angle grinder to take the worst off, then used a scotchbright pad in the die grinder to clean the grinder marks and remnants of paint off..

its not true what they say - you can polish a turd!

Got the pair of them finished and a bit more on the yokes before calling it a night!

The Rotter

Got a nasty old trumpet frame with the bolt on hard tail welded on! I'll probably utilise the hard tail to graft onto the BSA backend. There are a number of mounts that will need to stay, and the bottom frame rail has a kickout on it which will need to be maintained...

Black frame is a spare c11 one...

Invaders

I can't get enough of Peter allens reverse head triumph. Saw it at the hayride, spoke to both Peter and Pete stansfield -both top guys.

Well, I have just scored a set of invader wheels from the states at a great price- one of those cheeky speculative bids that pay off!

You may be seeing a mini me hybrid between this bike and Steve stockers lovely triumph - holy moley as pictured below!

Crappy update.........

just finished it off with a threaded bung tonight! (who needs bung king when you can loose 2 hours of your life in a bling making them yourself - its proper therapy!)

and here it is with the rear light afixed....

As you can see - its absolutely tipping down, so little trips in and out of the shed...

However - the to do list is getting smaller, and not filling back up so much!

Numberplate and rear light mount

Its been hoofing it down all day, so no chance to work on the engine.

the number plate mount needed moving, and a mount for the rear light to be made, so I thought I'd crack on with it...

I didn't want to not use the current threaded bungs, and thought best to make a more light weight option after the snowplough comments...
Again i turned up some lugs that i could weld to, and bent up some bar.

I used some threaded bungs with cable ties to get my spacing, and the important angle of the plate correct...

Tacked them outside with the tig, the bought it inside to weld up properly...

All in, a decent enough job - needs tiding up, but....

then I added an arm to hold the rear light in the middle above the plate

It will need tidying up and something to mount the light too at the top, but I'm happy anyways...

2 steps forward, 1 big step back.....

Starting the bits and bobs of snagging on the bike now, little
crappy bits that need to be done.

Made the rear wheel spacers, and a couple of other bits and bobs.

There was still a few bits to do on the engine, so I freed it from
its cling filmed mummification, and gave a stripped thread on the
exhaust outlet some grief.

I've never used a helicoil kit before, but it was pretty easy to do.

the only think remaining on the engine was to fit the boyer system
where the points should be. I had to turn up a shim that was lacking
from the inside of the cam shaft, and then sat there for about 30-40
minutes trying to work it out.....

how hard can it be - I've fitted it once, and another one on the stock
XS I have that's running......

another 5 mins of head scratching and trying to get the thing to fit...

BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the cam shaft is in the wrong way round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one side fits close into the engine, and the other has a threaded
section that sticks out - well they are the wrong bloody way round!
Nothing I can do apart from get the engine back out and turn the
bugger round, then re-fit it all!

To pick myself up I thought I would see about fitting the carbs -
this is them in place - I will need new jubilee clips to hold them in
place, but they look pretty cool.

I got the throttle cable sorted on the handlebar

Its definitely getting there now, the number plate mount will need
to be raised after all, but I'll tie that in with the rear brake light, then
the torque arm for the rear wheel and a connecting rod for the rear
break...

hopefully I can have a good couple of hours every afternoon this
week on it.

2 steps forward, 1 step back....

Pop for a quiet pint..

Had a mega long day today, left Leeds at 4.30am and drove to Oxford for an all day meeting. Got home at 9pm and went for a "quiet pint" - turns out they closed the street and have a 3 day free festival running!
