Starting the bits and bobs of snagging on the bike now, little
crappy bits that need to be done.
Made the rear wheel spacers, and a couple of other bits and bobs.
There was still a few bits to do on the engine, so I freed it from
its cling filmed mummification, and gave a stripped thread on the
exhaust outlet some grief.
I've never used a helicoil kit before, but it was pretty easy to do.
the only think remaining on the engine was to fit the boyer system
where the points should be. I had to turn up a shim that was lacking
from the inside of the cam shaft, and then sat there for about 30-40
minutes trying to work it out.....
how hard can it be - I've fitted it once, and another one on the stock
XS I have that's running......
another 5 mins of head scratching and trying to get the thing to fit...
BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the cam shaft is in the wrong way round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one side fits close into the engine, and the other has a threaded
section that sticks out - well they are the wrong bloody way round!
Nothing I can do apart from get the engine back out and turn the
bugger round, then re-fit it all!
To pick myself up I thought I would see about fitting the carbs -
this is them in place - I will need new jubilee clips to hold them in
place, but they look pretty cool.
I got the throttle cable sorted on the handlebar
Its definitely getting there now, the number plate mount will need
to be raised after all, but I'll tie that in with the rear brake light, then
the torque arm for the rear wheel and a connecting rod for the rear
break...
hopefully I can have a good couple of hours every afternoon this
week on it.
2 steps forward, 1 step back....
Look on the bright side, at least it's better than 1 step forwards & 2 steps back!!
