Skinny tanks

Had my first bit of time in the shed for a good while - I feel like a real man once again!

tacked up the tank halves to the new steel

then seamed the buggers up. Despite having the shakes still from the weekend I'm happy with my welding skills today!

a couple of shitty areas where there was porosity, but nothing that cant be sorted out...

The bottoms were a bit of a bugger to get right, but got there in the end...

gave them a clean up and were looking pretty good. they will sit either side of the frame, and I will be making a false top so they look like they meet with a nice small gap down the middle....

oh, and the caps dont quite match - dont get that - so i'm either gonna have to cut and re-weld one to match, or work out a way to go single sided with split tanks..... There may be a way to make them look like split tanks but actually having them joined - but cant do that till i have the frame back....

45's a roller!

Seems like everything is coming to a head at once at the moment.
Toddy has been cracking on with the frame for my 45 project, this is gonna be cool as hell, and can't wait to get it on the road!

Early Birthday Present

My birthday in a couple of weeks - so I thought I'd treat myself to the remaining expensive part for my Indian Scout project. Its a brand new Morris Mag, so it should run and spit the mighty spark no matter how crap my wiring is!

A lovely UPS man came to the door and demanded the Import duties before he handed it over. Was a bit pissed to start with - but royal mail charge a 8-12 pound handling fee to send you a card in the post and you to go pick it up. No handling fee involved here!

Skinny bobs

So I've had a bit of time out - shit to do round the house, work to catch up on etc....

Anyways - popped over to see Toddy yesterday to discuss the frame for the 45. Its full steam ahead with it now, and he's gonna be getting on with it in my absence.

I scored an old set of fatbob tanks a while back - came with a lot of parts, that i sold on and made a tidy profit on. Anyways - these were part of the deal, plenty of surface rust, but I thought they may just work for the bike. I've seen loads of cool bikes in Greasy Kulture, and Dice, plus all the blogs with skinny 2 part tanks, so I just had to have a blast at that!.

Took them with me to Toddy's, and he agreed that with a suitable amount of cutting they would work a treat.

Toddy marked up with masking tape on the first one where he thought - couldn't agree more, so when I got them out the car about an hour ago I couldn't just leave them like that.....

Got some tape and marked the second tank. This was my first lay of the tape and I stuck with it rather then fannying about with it...

Cut the first one, and you can see how much has gone from it...

Then cut the second one....

Its amazing the difference between the shapes of the 2 tanks on the bottom. luckily they will be blanked off and stay as 2 halves. The plan is that they will run either side of the frame, so will appear slightly wider. Toddy suggested running a bit of metal down the top of the tank, so I can have the illusion that they are on top of the frame rails.

I'll get cracking on cleaning them up another day, but i'm really happy with having them sussed out.

Gearbox mounts for the 45

Toddy has got on with the mounts for the 45 build. You maybe thinking- that's now a 45 box, it's a BSA one- correct! We're using a BSA box for this custom bike.

Beautiful work as we can always expect from Toddy!

Can't wait to get back cracking with this!
